Twitter allows users to post public messages called tweets, send private messages, and post photos and videos.
Why is it a risk?
Twitter is rated as 17+ on the Apple App Store and has been rated as mild for the following themes: sexual content and nudity; profanity and crude humour. Mature and Suggestive themes have also been noted as occuring at frequent and intense levels. Whilst Twitter is primarily described as a source of news and entertainment, much of this content can be highly inappropriate for younger audiences. Twitter is also host to fake/scam profiles, and children have reported witnessing rude, mean and toxic behaviour taking place across the platform.
