Tinder is a popular dating app where you can swipe, match, chat, and date. Dating made easy with just one swipe to the right to like someone and a left swipe to pass. This app does offer in-app purchases for a Tinder Gold subscription.

Why is it a risk?

Tinder has gained a reputation as one of the go-to dating apps for casual hook ups with strangers and spontaneous late night online exchanges. Users can sign up through their social media accounts, and as a result some personal information is included in the Tinder profile by default (such as age and place of employment). The dating app also uses location settings in order to present prospective matches based on geographic proximity. App users range in age, and so the site is host to both minors and adults. Although the app declares that minors won't be connected with adult profiles, many children using the app lie about their age on their social media profiles and so are consequently connected with much older strangers looking for a match. There is an abundance of news articles and Internet Safety reports warning about the dangers of children and teens using Tinder, and the app has been described as one of the most dangerous for this age group. Young users have been the target of predators through the app, and have become victim to processes of sextortion through the exchange of intimate content.Further, Tinder is frequently named as one of the major dating apps linked to a drastic rise in real life crimes including sexual assault, rape and murder as a consequence of stranger meet ups.
