Bumble is a dating app in which "women make the first move". Female users have 24 hours to identify their potential matches, and male users are given 24 hours to respond. The app presents itself as a way to build valuable relationships, find friends and make empowered connections based on the concept of the female user being in charge and initiating interactions.
Why is it a risk?
Bumble is a dating app, and so not a suitable environment for children. The app is designed for over 18s and children are not allowed to join (although many do, through using fake profile information). Although Bumble has produced some stringent guidelines relating to app use (eg no inappropriate pictures, no pornographic content, no soliciting) and appears to police the site regularly, the app is nethertheless designed to encourage interaction and meet-ups between strangers based on shared interests and geographic location.
