Skout is a platform that allows users to meet others geographically near or from across the world. Users can share photos of themselves with others, message, comment on content and favourite people - similar to Tinder.
Why is it a risk?
Skout describes itself as the world’s largest app for meeting new people. The minimum age of use is 17+, the reason being (as disclosed by the App Store) there is a high risk of mature/suggestive themes, in addition to a mild risk of sexual content and nudity. The app uses a user’s GPS location to match you with other users nearby. In 2017 the police issued a warning to parents about Skout due to the fact that the app has been used to send and request graphic images of children.
