Whilst LinkedIn is primarily a social networking tool for professional adults, the company extended it's userbase to allow younger children onto the site to connect with school/university peers and staff. LinkedIn provides a security feature for child profiles, iwhich includes the limiting of child profile information which is available for public view. However it may be a concern that users can be contacted by strangers and less protection is offered if the child has given a false age in their profile information. This is a site designed for adults and is therefore a network full of adults, so thought must be given as to whether this is the most suitable environment for children to interact.
